Obituary

Reno Piccioli, 90 - husband, father, grandfather and math teacher extraordinaire - has passed peacefully, surrounded by family, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and compassion.  A longtime resident of Fairfield CT, Bluffton SC, and most recently,Trumbull CT, Reno was beloved by all who knew him.

Reno was born on September 17,1932 to Alfredo and Clara Piccioli.  He was the first in his family to go to college. He attended UCONN and was a lifelong Women’s Basketball fan. He met the love of his life, Jean, and they were happily married for over 49 years until her passing in 2004. Reno was a math teacher at Andrew Warde HS for the majority of his 36 year career. He helped many students, pulled countless pranks, and was known for his sense of humor, his smile, and his ability to make people laugh.

Post retirement, he and Jean moved to Bluffton, SC where they enjoyed 6 glorious years traveling, hosting parties, and generally making merry. Reno spent many hours at the woodshop creating pieces that are now treasured by his family. After Jean’s passing, Reno met Martha Sherman (Marty) and they enjoyed a “Chapter 2” of over 10 years together until her passing in 2017.

Reno is survived by his children; Laurie DeAngelis (Chris), Donna Gentrup (Mark Ford), Tom Piccioli (Nicole), and the three lights of his life - his grandchildren; Julie DeAngelis (Dakota Roos), Liza Gentrup, and Alex Piccioli, along with his sister-in-law Judy Couture, her husband and Reno’s best friend, Carl, brother-in-law Jim Riccio, his wife Patty, and several nieces and a nephew whom he loved very much.

A celebration of Reno's life will be held on Monday, July 10 from 4-7 pm followed by a service Tuesday, July 11 at 10 am  at Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Rd. Fairfield, CT 06824. Internment will follow at St Michael’s Cemetery in Stratford.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Reno J Piccioli Scholarship  as a lasting tribute to our father’s lifelong commitment to the need and importance of education. This scholarship was a dream of our dad's and has been designed to assist future STEM teachers.
