Mary A. (Durnin) Turrini

Mary (Durnin) Turrini, wife of the late Ernest Turrini of Fairfield CT passed away May 17, 2023 at home. 

Born June 11, 1934 in Bridgeport CT to Michael & Edith Durnin

Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Daughter, Sister and Aunt

Lovingly known as Mom, Gram, Mimi and BooBoo

After graduating from Bassick High School, Mary was a telephone operator.  She met Ernie on his return from the Marines, when he saw her walking to work and offered her a ride.  She was pleasantly surprised when she finished her shift that night and saw he was there waiting for her.  They were married in June 1956. She was a stay at home Mom who lovingly cared for Danny through his illness as well as her 3 girls. She then worked as a machine operator at a P&P Studio with Ernie and at Warnaco until her retirement.

She loved going to the casino, fishing, bowling, playing cards at her daughter's,and crocheting… but mostly chocolate ice cream.  She made numerous blankets (too many to count) as gifts for family, friends and for veterans in the VA hospital. She was happiest around family and friends and was thrilled at the number of people who came to her 80th birthday party.  She was happy she was around to attend all her grandchildren’s weddings and was still talking about Kelsey’s wedding 4 years later and how she danced the whole night. She especially enjoyed time with her great grandsons.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by husband Ernest, son Daniel, brothers Frank and Billy, and Son in law Bob Hurley

Survived by daughters, Patricia Hurley, Susan (Jim) Avenia and Laurie Rodriguez, Grandchildren Laura (Anthony) Vazquez, Joseph (Jessica) Rodriguez and Kelsey (Austin) Phelan, Great Grandchildren Evan and Aiden Vazquez, Henry Phelan and several nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to her amazing caregivers, Allilah Paul and Mimose Benoit who took such great and loving care of her as if she were their family.

Friends and family are invited for visitation on Sunday, May 21, 2023 from 3-6pm at the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. A funeral service will be held at the Spear-Miller Funeral Home on Monday, May 22, 2023 at 11am.
