Marjorie Golger Obituary

Marjorie Barry Golger of Fairfield, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2021 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease.  She was born and raised in Waterbury, Connecticut and was the daughter of Anna and James Barry.   Marge was a graduate of Central Connecticut State Teacher’s College.  She received her master’s degree in Education from Columbia University, where she met her future husband John, who predeceased her. Marge taught in the Bridgeport Public School system for thirty years where she was a Kindergarten teacher at Longfellow Elementary School in the Black Rock section of Bridgeport.  Her love of children, along with her eternal optimism and enthusiasm for teaching came through on a daily basis.  Her interest in education and her desire to see her students succeed was evident in the joy she took in reuniting with many of her former students that stayed in the area long after their graduation.  Marge was a longtime member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Parish Ladies Guild and was an active member of the Gaelic American Club in Fairfield.  After she retired from teaching, she volunteered for many years at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport.   Marge loved to travel and cherished the memories of her many trips abroad with her husband John. However, her greatest joy was raising her three children, Kevin (Peggie), Eileen (Dennis) and Bob (Denise) and subsequently playing an instrumental role in the lives of her grandchildren, Brian, Christopher, Heather, Kelly and Molly, as well as the newest addition to her family, great-grand daughter Emery Vilanova. A funeral Mass will be held March 13th at 10:00 at St Thomas Aquinas Church in Fairfield. Face masks will be required to attend the Mass. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude for the exceptional care given to Marge by the Harbor staff at Middlebrook Farms in Trumbull.
