Obituary

Joseph Henry (Joe) Maloney age 95, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend passed away peacefully on June 26, 2023. Joe was a longtime resident of Fairfield, CT and Weston, CT. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, the youngest child of Arthur Joseph Maloney and Irene Elizabeth LaBesque Maloney.

Joe was married to the love of his life, Mary Neely Maloney for 57 happy and beautiful years, before her passing in 2010. They were both immensely proud of their large and extended family. He is survived by his daughter, Janet Funkhouser (Charles), Cumberland, RI, his sons, Robert Maloney (Rhonda Lee), Milwaukee, WI,

David Maloney (Alexis) Charlotte, NC, Charles Maloney, Dillon, CO and

James Maloney (Jiaohua), Arroyo Grande, CA. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and three great granddaughters, as well as eight nieces and nephews, along with their families.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, Joe served his country in Postwar Japan. He served with the Nara Military Government Team as a Section Chief. He was honorably discharged in March, 1948.  After his service, he graduated from Tulane, University with a degree in     Mechanical Engineering. He then went on to a successful business career including sales with ILG Electric Ventilating Company in New Orleans and Chicago, an Executive VP role with Allis-Chalmers Corporation in Wisconsin and ultimately CEO, then ownership of ACCO/American Chain and Cable Company, Inc.

Joe supported numerous humanitarian and civic causes, including serving on the boards of the University of Bridgeport and St. Vincent’s Medical Center. He also served as President of Brooklawn Country Club in the early 90’s. He was an avid golfer and tennis player, and together with his late wife Mary, had a strong passion for the arts.

Joe was such a strong presence in all our lives. He always put his family, friends and community before all else. We will miss his quick wit and sense of humor, his strength and his courage. While we mourn his passing, we will always celebrate his remarkable life.
