Jose Antonio Gomes

Jose Antonio Gomes, age 90, of Fairfield, beloved husband of Fernanda Barreira Gomes, passed away peacefully with his family by his side Sunday, June 4, 2023. Born in Tresmundes, Chaves, Portugal, the son of the late Francisco Nobre and Conceicao Gomes, he had been a Fairfield resident for over 48 years. Jose proudly served as a Sergeant in the Portuguese Army.  After coming to the United States, he worked at Bridgeport Machines, Textron-Lycoming and at the Mercedes Construction Company in Stamford. The most important thing to Jose was his family. He dedicated his life to providing for his loved ones and spending time with them. In addition to his loving wife, he will be sadly missed by two children, Sonia Gomes Hine and her husband Kenneth of Fairfield and Daniel Barreira Gomes of Fairfield; five cherished grandchildren, Kenneth Hine, Jr., Andrew Hine, Chase, Brooklyn and Bentley Gomes; two siblings Fernando and Maria, several in-laws and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by siblings Ana, Antonio, Celeste and Lina. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, June 9, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, 834 Brookside Drive, Fairfield. Interment will follow in Lawncroft Cemetery.
