Gary S. Varney

Gary S. Varney, age 72, of Fairfield, beloved husband of the late Cheryl E. Varney, passed away peacefully Thursday, August 3, 2023 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center.  Born in Bridgeport, the son of the late Joseph and Mary Varney, he had been a Fairfield resident for the last 50 years.  He was a graduate of Bullard Havens Technical School and received an Associate’s degree from Norwalk Community College.  Gary worked for Dictaphone, Versatech, Inc and retired from Xerox as a Field Service Engineer.  He loved bowling, golf and was an avid NY Yankees fan.  Above all else, Gary delighted in time spent with his family.  He was able to find humor anywhere, always making people laugh. He will be sadly missed by his three beloved daughters, Shannon Varney, Stephanie Varney Hodge and her husband Richard and Ashley Varney, all of Fairfield; a sister, Rose Abramo of Bridgeport; a brother, James Varney of Bridgeport; a sister-in-law, Colleen Bragdon of Trumbull; three cherished grandchildren, Rian, Noah and Cheryl and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by a grandson Joshua.  Friends and family may call on Monday, August 7, 2023 from 4-8 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.  A graveside service will be held Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Lawncroft Cemetery, 1740 Black Rock Turnpike, Fairfield with the Rev.
