Gail L. (Lonergan) Dowd

On June 27, 2021, Gail (Lonergan) Dowd, beloved wife, mother of four, and grandparent of ten, peacefully passed away at the age of 79.

Gail was born May 21, 1942, in Toledo, OH to Harold and Mary (Keehan) Lonergan. She married Bob Dowd (who passed away earlier this year) in August 1965. They were long-time residents of Fairfield, CT where they raised four children: Kelly, Tracy, Keith, and Christopher. 

 A graduate of St. Francis' School of Nursing, Gail’s passion was nursing and taking care of others. During her long career, she worked at an orthopedic practice in Norwalk and later with an oncology practice in Fairfield. When she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease, she found comfort in volunteering for a clinical trial that she knew would advance research and could benefit others.

Gail was an avid reader, game player and Elvis Presley’s #1 fan. She enjoyed eating out, spending time with friends and family, swimming, and traveling to Hampton Beach. Her greatest joys were her children and grandchildren.

As her Alzheimer’s progressed, she was aided and comforted by many. Our family is grateful for the care she received from the nurses, aides, and staff at Bridges by EPOCH Trumbull and Athena Home Health and Hospice.

Gail is survived by her daughter, Kelly Campbell of Trumbull, CT and her children Jonathan, Ryan, Monet, and Faith; her daughter, Tracy Ganti of North Potomac, MD, her husband Narendra, and their children Nicole and Ainsley; her son, Keith Dowd of Clinton, MS, his wife Jamie, and their children Kylie and Carson; and her son, Christopher Dowd of Rocky Hill, CT, his wife Adrienne, and their children Harper and Graham. Gail and her husband also opened their family to many foreign exchange students throughout the years, including her daughter from Brazil, Aline Scott.  Gail is also survived by her beloved sister Bonnie Simko of Milford, CT.

A joint memorial service for Gail and Bob Dowd will be held on Saturday, July 17th at 10:00am at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Road, Fairfield. The family invites you to join them at a reception at the church hall after the service. The burial will be private.
