Doris Stranko

Doris Stranko of Fairfield, beloved wife of 66 years of Peter Stranko, passed away Thursday, May 18, 2017 at St. Vincent's Medical Center. Born in Bridgeport the daughter of the late Andrew and Edith Karacsony, she had been a Fairfield resident for the last 58 years. A graduate of Bassick High School, she worked at the First National Bank prior to having her three children. After raising her children, she worked for over 20 years as a paraprofessional for the Fairfield School System. She was an active member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church where she volunteered in many capacities. Dorie was also an active member of the Scandinavian Club, North Star Singers and Easton Seniors. Dorie enjoyed crafts of all kinds and loved painting and sewing. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends and was a fabulous baker. Her Christmas cookies were always in great demand. Survivors in addition to her loving husband Peter include three beloved children, Gary P. Stranko and his wife Kathryn of Danbury, Nancy Verzaro and Mark Kucinskas of Fairfield and Lisa Stranko of Marin County, CA; four loving grandchildren, Ryan and Derek Stranko, John Verzaro and Nicole Hessel and her husband C.J.; two cherished great-grandchildren, Harlee and Ryder Hessel; four siblings, June Oshinski, Barbara Gardecki, Peter Karacsony and Dede Santos; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Andrew and George. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 160 Hill Farm Road, Fairfield. A Reception will follow in the Church Hall. Interment will be private.
