Donna (Ward) Gurling

Donna Ward Gurling, age 66, of New London, passed away in the comfort of her own home on Sunday, March 12, 2023. Born June 1, 1956, Donna was raised in Brooklyn, New York. She spent many of her younger years going back and forth between New York and Connecticut.

Those who knew Donna would all agree that she was one-of-a-kind. With her quick witted humor, her unique mannerisms, and thick Brooklyn accent, Donna was always sure to induce side-splitting laughter. She was never afraid to speak her mind, especially if it was “tough love.” The jokes and tough love typically coincided with each other; she was the original “Roast Master” of the family.

Donna had an immense love for her family, most especially her children and granddaughter. Her children were her world and there was no greater moment in life for Donna than becoming a grandmother. 

Donna’s legacy continues on through her beloved children, William Gurling and Danielle Gurling; and her cherished granddaughter, Molly Gurling. She is also survived by her cousins, Dolores Corbett and Toni Ann Lazar, both of whom were more like sisters than cousins; her godchildren, Michelle Laviolette and Michael Ward; her dear friend, Jimmy Cruz; as well as several other extended family members. In addition to her mother, Marie Ward, Donna is predeceased by her aunts, Marion Pelos and Pauline Drumm; as well as her cousin Maria Elena Drumm.

Friends and family are invited to gather on Saturday, June 3, 2023 from 2-4pm in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield, CT. A family-led service will begin promptly at 4pm.
