Barbara (Bobbie) R. (Rhynas) Trahnstrom

Barbara (Bobbie) R. Trahnstrom of Fairfield, beloved wife of the late Nils Walter Trahnstrom, passed away peacefully in her home Sunday, August 8, 2021.  Born in Mount Vernon, NY on July 13, 1929, the daughter of the late Peter and Ethel (Grant) Rhynas, she had been a Fairfield resident since 1965.  She was a 1947 graduate of A.B. Davis High School in Mount Vernon and attended Edgewood Park Junior College in Briarcliff Manor, NY.  Bobbie’s first full-time job was a lab technician at Mount Vernon Hospital. After raising her four children, she returned to work as a secretary for F.G. Mason Engineering in Fairfield.  Bobbie was a long-time active member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and was active in the women’s WELCA group volunteering for Operation Hope and sending care packages to the military troops abroad.  Above all else, Bobbie valued her family and friends.  Survivors include two daughters, Karen Jankowski and her partner William Johnson of Hudson, FL and Lisa Howard and her husband, John of Amherst, MA; two sons, Peter Trahnstrom of Fairfield and Nils Andrew Trahnstrom of Mendon, VT; eight grandchildren,  three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by an infant sister as well as a sister, Lois Ross and a brother Donald Rhynas.  A funeral service will be held Friday, August 13, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Fairfield.  Interment will follow in Lawncroft Cemetery.  A visitation will be held Thursday from 4-6 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.  In lieu of flowers, friends may consider a donation in Bobbie’s memory to Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 160 Hill Farm Road, Fairfield, CT 06824.  For information or to offer an online condolence please visit www.SpearFuneralHome.com
