Timothy John Kelly

Timothy J. Kelly, age 78, of Fairfield, beloved husband of 55 years to Kathleen (Adams) Kelly, passed away peacefully Monday, December 1, 2025 at the VA Medical Center, West Haven. Born in New York City, the son of the late John Patrick Kelly and Mary (Hevern) Kelly, he had been a lifelong Fairfield resident. Tim graduated from Andrew Warde High School in 1965 and later enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps where he served two tours of duty in Vietnam. Following his military service he joined the Fairfield Police Department serving over 20 years until his retirement. Tim then devoted the remainder of his life to volunteer service for the Connecticut VA Hospital, first in transportation, then as a benefits coordinator. Tim loved volunteering at the VA and was instrumental in obtaining benefits for numerous veterans over the course of his time there. He enjoyed volunteering as Santa Claus at the VA also. Tim was Past Commander of American Legion Post 74 and Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Post 9427 in Fairfield and Past Commander of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 19 in Fairfield where he also served as a National Officer. He always looked forward to participating in the Fairfield Memorial Day Parade. In addition to his loving wife, Kathleen he will be sadly missed by two sons, James Hungerford Kelly of Stamford and Jeremy J. Kelly and his wife Laura of Fairfield; two cherished grandsons, Micah Kelly and Elijah Kelly of Fairfield; a beloved sister, Laurie Marucci and her husband Michael of Monroe, two beloved brothers, Brian Kelly of Florida and Sean Kelly and his wife Debbie of Basalt, CO and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, December 5, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1719 Post Road, Fairfield. Interment with military honors will follow at Lawncroft Cemetery. Friends may greet the family Thursday from 4-8 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, friends may consider a donation in Tim’s memory to the National Disabled American Veterans, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301 (or online at www.dav.org) or to the charity of one’s choice.
