Susan Virginia Brown (née Matto), age 103, passed away peacefully in her home on August 31, 2025. Born on September 26, 1921 she was the daughter of Frank and Theresa Matto, the 4 th child of nine. During her young life she contributed greatly to the care of her younger siblings. After high school, she attended Butler Business School and soon began her career at the Connecticut National Bank. She was executive secretary for Presidents Lewis Shea and Alexander Hawley and before her retirement was named a Vice President of the bank. After retiring from the bank, Susan continued to serve her community as secretary to the First Selectman of Westport, Connecticut, a role she held with dedication until her final retirement.
In 1959 she married Clinton Brown with whom she enjoyed many years of traveling and of entertaining family and friends until his death in1988.
Sue is predeceased by her siblings Theresa Matto, Frank Matto (Dorothy), Charles Matto, John Matson (Ada Jean), Thomas Matto and Laurence Matto. She is survived by her sister Sylvia Ferrante (John) of Trumbull and Josephine LeClair of Seminole, Florida, sister-in-law Helen Matto and many nieces and nephews including Elizabeth Kristof (Richard), John Ferrante (Gina), Anne Ferrante, Karen Matto Leska, Janet Matto and Frank Matto.
Special appreciation to her aide, Linda Grasso, for her care and kindness to Sue.
Susan was laid to rest in Mountain Grove Cemetery in Bridgeport on September 5, 2025.
