Shirley A. DeCola

Shirley A. DeCola, age 91, of Norwalk, formerly of Fairfield, beloved wife of 71 years to Roger M. DeCola, Sr., passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Saturday July 18, 2026. Born in Bridgeport, the daughter of the late John and Sophie Kycia, she was raised in Southport and had been a lifelong area resident. Prior to her marriage, she worked for the Famous Artists School in Westport. Shirley loved tending to her gardens, and enjoyed reading, cooking and needlework. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family especially her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her loving husband Roger, she will be sadly missed by three children: James M. DeCola and his wife Susan of Killingworth, Roger M. DeCola, Jr., and Melissa J. DeCola of Norwalk; several grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Robert Kycia and a sister, Beatrice Massa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, July 24th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1719 Post Road, Fairfield. Interment will be private at Oak Lawn Cemetery. Friends may greet the family Friday from 9 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, friends may consider a donation in Shirley’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
