Sachiyo Furukawa passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 7, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was 78 years old.
Born in post-war Japan, Sachiyo was raised in Imari-shi in Saga Prefecture, where her family serves as caretakers of a historic Jodoshinshu Buddhist temple now in its 19th generation and several centuries old. The daughter of a priest lineage, she carried with her the spirit of resilience, compassion, and a deep cultural heritage.
In the 1970s, Sachiyo along with Hiroshi bravely journeyed to the United States to build a new life. Settling in Connecticut, she created a warm and vibrant home, raising a family and contributing to the community with her creativity and energy. She was an artist in every sense painting, gardening, keeping bees, raising butterflies, and sharing her love of beauty with those around her. An avid tennis player, she stayed active and engaged well into her later years.
Sachiyo was known for her fierce attitude, love, quick wit, and unwavering spirit. She touched many lives with her kindness and strength, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her Husband, Sister, Son, and countless friends who loved her dearly.
