Robert Thomas McMahon

Robert T. McMahon, age 85, beloved husband of Betsy McMahon of Fairfield CT passed away peacefully on Saturday May 17th 2025 at the VA Hospital in West Haven CT. Born in New York City, he was the son of the late William McMahon and Anne McMahon. He grew up in Bridgeport Connecticut and graduated from Bassick High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from November 24th 1958 to December 2nd 1962 during the Cuban Missile Crisis. After his military service, he became a letter carrier for 30 plus years and was active in the labor union. He thoroughly enjoyed all his customers, delivering mail and packages with his infectious smile and always had treats for the dogs on his route. In retirement, he most enjoyed spending time with his family. He also discovered a love for golf and working at the Par 3 golf course. For all who knew him, he loved to tell stories and classic dad jokes.

Surviving Bob are his loving wife of 58 years, and their daughters Kelly Baker and her husband Steven and Colleen Palmer and her husband Joe, along with his granddaughters, Molly Baker, Hannah Baker and Drew Palmer, and his granddogs Moose and George. He is also survived by his brother T. Kevin McMahon (Eileen) and his nieces and nephews Debbie DelBueno (Gary), Brien McMahon (Amy), Theresa Bardes (Tony), Laurie Therrien (Tony), Jill Kristle (Rob), Craig Halica, Kevin McMahon, Kerry Rudy (Davin), and many other nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brother William McMahon and sister-in-law Teri McMahon and his sister Maureen Halica and brother-in-law Peter Halica.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, May 23, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Road, Fairfield. Interment with military honors will follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery. Friends may greet the family Thursday from 4-8 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Homes for the Brave, 655 Park Avenue, Bridgeport, CT 06604 or to the charity of one’s choice.
