Patrick Michael Walsh

Patrick Michael Walsh, or “Pat” to family and friends, died at home in Punta Gorda, FL on July 8, 2026. He was 71.

Born on June 27, 1955 in New London, CT, Pat lived most of his life in Fairfield, CT, before moving to Punta Gorda in 2020. He graduated from Fairfield College Preparatory School in 1973 and went on to receive his bachelor’s degree in English from Tufts University. He was a natural athlete: he loved to ski, sail, and play basketball. In college he played point guard for the basketball team and was introduced to the sport of lacrosse, later joining that team as well. His time on the hardwood and lacrosse field revealed a true calling for Pat: coaching. After graduating from college, Pat moved back to Fairfield to teach English at Prep and he became head basketball and lacrosse coach for the Jesuits until 1980. One of his proudest achievements was growing the now powerhouse lacrosse program from club level to varsity status in its first year.

Pat stayed in Fairfield to raise his family, working in the title insurance industry and bartending for many years in the area. Social by nature, he played in softball leagues and loved to get in a round of golf whenever he could. As his children grew, he dedicated himself to them - getting up early to get donuts for the beach; attending every school event; driving them anywhere they needed to go; welcoming their friends into his home; teaching them to play golf. And, always a coach, Pat spent the better part of a decade coaching his children's basketball and lacrosse teams. Once they entered high school, he was still there for every game, transitioning to number one fan.

Pat loved being by the water, listening to music, and spending time with others. He was generous beyond measure with his time and energy, especially as a coach, and he will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.

Pat is survived by his daughter Chase Kjellberg (Scott), his son Patrick (PJ) Walsh, II, and his two beloved grandchildren: Clare and Andrew. Pat is also survived by his aunt and uncle, Yolanda and Robert Vossler, as well as four cousins, their spouses, and their children. He is predeceased by his parents, Patrick J. and Ilona D. Walsh, and his brother Peter J. Walsh.

All are welcome for the wake at Spear Miller Funeral Home,39 S Benson Rd, Fairfield, CT 06824 on July 30, 2026 from 3-6pm, as well as the funeral service on July 31, 2026 at Spear Miller beginning at 11am. Interment will be private.
