Patricia Ann Gerner

Patricia Ann Gerner (Lucey), 82 years, passed away in Southport, CT on May 25th, 2025. She was a longtime resident of New Hartford, CT. She was born on March 20, 1943 in Bridgeport, CT to Mr. and Mrs. James and Dorothy Lucey.

She attended Notre Dame Catholic High School where she was president of the student council. She got her BA from College of New Rochelle, focusing on art and fashion design, and her MS in Education from University of Southern Connecticut.

She married William (Bill) Gerner in 1967, and settled briefly in Southport, CT. After teaching art at Fairfield Ludlowe High School for several years, she opened up her own plant store in Westport called The Square Root. Her love of design and botany carried over into her next job as a part time florist. Later on in life, she went to UCONN Law School and became an attorney for the Attorney General’s Office. After briefly retiring and finding herself somewhat bored, she entered back into the workforce and opened up her own law practice, where she consulted on regulatory issues in the health care area, working specifically with the Office of Health Care Access and the Department of Public Health.

After Bill passed away in 2006, she met her current husband, Tom Fowler, whom she spent many years traveling, cooking, and spending summers with at the lake.

Pat is survived by her only daughter, Kristen Gerner, of Westport, along with her husband, Pedro Dominguez and the grandchildren that she adored, Peter and Hannah. She is also survived by her sister in-law, Betty Gerner and Tom.

Mom loved to garden, read, travel, and spend time with friends and family. She enjoyed cooking, hosting get togethers, spending time at her cottage on West Hill Lake, and maple sugaring with Bill at Three Pond Meadow Farm. She enjoyed singing in the Maplewood Choir, and cherished the many old and new friends she made in her lifetime. She was a wonderful mentor to others in her profession. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.

Thank you to Dr. Ratner at Yale for her relentless efforts to help mom with her battle with ovarian cancer for the last 10 years, as well as all of the staff at Maplewood, Regional Hospice, and aides that worked with her in her final weeks.

Pat will be remembered for her love of people and parties, her attention to detail, whether it was the personal cards she wrote, or the Christmas packages she wrapped. She had a brilliant mind and her warmth, positivity, zest for life will not be forgotten.
