Martha Millicent Maquat

Martha Millicent Maquat, longtime resident of Easton, passed away peacefully in her home on October 1, 2026 at a remarkable 102 years old. Born in Bridgeport, CT to the late Herbert and Ruth (McMinn) Liggins, she was one of five children. She graduated from Central High School and went on to obtain her nursing degree at Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing. For many years, she was the OR Nurse Supervisor at Bridgeport Hospital and was loved and respected by the surgeons and her staff.

She married her husband, Harold Robert Maquat in 1948 and lived in the same family home until her passing.

“Mill” loved to cook and work in her gardens. Her baking prowess was exemplified by winning the Pillsbury Bake Off Contest in 1959 for her “Layered Puff Cakes”. Much to everyone’s dismay, she finally retired her John Deere tractor at the age of 98.

Millicent was predeceased by her husband, Harold, her parents and four siblings: sisters, Charlotte L. Durkan and Elizabeth R. Garey, and brothers: Herbert A. Liggins and Harry O. Liggins, and her beloved daschunds, Gretchen and Dasha. Affectionately called “Grammy”, she is survived by her loving family: Rob Maquat, Gail Derrig, and Dr. Lynne Maquat; her grandchildren: Kelly, Kerry, Katie, Blake and Cameron; and her two great-grandchildren, Phoebe and Steven.
