Laura Gleason Wetmore, of Fairfield, CT, passed away peacefully on April 27th, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. #FCancer
She was the beloved wife of Tom, her partner since high school, with whom she built a life rooted in loyalty, humor, and unwavering devotion to family and friends.
She was a devoted mother to Griffin (Lauren), Tucker (Virginia), and Molly (Joe), and a proud grandmother to little Tucker, Georgia, Darby, Quinn, Finn, Maren, Briggs, Rosie, and Pearce, who were the center of her world. She is also survived by extended family and countless friends she loved as her own.
She spent her career as a history teacher in Bridgeport, where she was known for her passion, strength, and willingness to stand up for what she believed was right, famously including the teachers’ strike of 1978.
She will be remembered for her sharp wit, fierce loyalty, and resolute strength. She found joy in simple moments—time with friends, shopping for a deal, casual meals, and especially time with her “cunnin” grandchildren, who could do no wrong in her eyes.
She and Tom built a life where family extended far beyond blood—defined instead by those who showed up, who stayed close, and who loved each other like family. That legacy lives on in the close-knit family and community she leaves behind.
A visitation will be held at Spear Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield CT, from 4pm - 7pm on April 30th. A service to celebrate her life will be held at 11am at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Road, Fairfield CT, on May 1st.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Jude’s Children Hospital.
She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
