Kenneth Edward Malstrom Jr.

January 31, 1949 — December 19, 2025

Kenneth Edward Malstrom Jr.

Kenneth Edward Malstrom Jr. was a man who filled every room with energy and life. His intensity was matched by his warmth, and his opinions were shared with a passion that sparked conversation and connection. Ken’s outgoing personality made him unforgettable—he loved people, and people loved him right back. A proud Vietnam veteran, he carried his service as a source of honor and strength every single day. His pride, his laughter, and his unwavering authenticity left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

For nearly 20 years, he was actively involved with the Monroe Jaycees, serving as chapter president in the early 1980s. Through that organization, he built a large circle of lifelong friendships rooted in shared effort, trust, and mutual respect.

A workaholic by nature, he worked hard and took pride in it. He was fortunate to retire young and truly enjoyed the life he earned. He and his wife Nancy spent 17 years in Myrtle Beach, a place he loved deeply. There, he embraced golf, time outdoors, good wine, and strong friendships—especially at La Belle Amie Vineyard, where community and conversation mattered as much as the wine itself.

He loved nature and being outside, and he enjoyed helping people. He was generous with his advice—whether it was asked for or not—and liked being useful, sharing what he had learned, and staying engaged with the people around him.

A lifelong New York Giants fan, he followed the team with unwavering dedication. He loved golf, where focus and precision matched his temperament and appreciation for the outdoors.

A little over a year ago, he returned to Connecticut to be closer to family. Wherever he went—including during his time in the hospital—he made connections easily. Nurses, doctors, and staff quickly knew his story, his career, and that he was a veteran. He remained sharp, intense, and fully himself until the day he died.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Malstrom; his children Dustin Malstrom, Kimberly Visci, and Sara Tomkiv; his daughter-in-law Kanako Itano-Malstrom; his sons-in-law James Visci and Taras Tomkiv; and his seven grandchildren: Oliver Itano-Malstrom, Maple Itano-Malstrom, Maximus Visci, Elton Visci, Zoryana Tomkiv, Drayna Tomkiv, and Mykyta Tomkiv.

In keeping with Ken’s values, the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society or Wounded Warrior Project in place of flowers.

Friends and family may come to pay their respects on Monday, December 29th from 2-5pm at the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield CT 06824. Burial details will be announced shortly.
