Judith F. Honey

Judith F. Honey, 85, of Southport, CT passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2025. She was born on August 27, 1940 in Chapel Hill, NC to the late Ruth and Raymond Strong. She graduated from the University of North Carolina.

Judy was a teacher for 35 years as well as an artist, jeweler, painter and knitter.

As a Redding elementary school teacher, Judy helped establish the school’s first non-graded program, then developed a unique program for her own classroom where 30 or more field trips per year was the norm. She firmly believed that learning could take place not only inside the classroom, but outside it as well.

She found the love of her life on Fairfield Beach. As fate would have it, Judy accidentally stepped into a dab of tar and, while trying to wash it off, along came John Honey to help her. The rest is history.

Being an artist herself, Judy found kinship with fellow artists and loved purchasing their art. It was never just about the pieces themselves; she was just as interested in the people and personalities behind the art. Many of the artists she got to know became some of her closest friends.

Judy loved to learn. She fully immersed herself in all subjects of interest, from philosophy, Buddhism, music, and visual arts.

She found Montana later in life and immediately fell in love with it. Both she and John felt a bond with the land and the people, spending many months out of the year there enjoying close friendships.

Judy was predeceased by her daughter, Laura Lowe. She leaves behind her husband of 49 years, John, her son Andrew and his wife Ann, their two children Stuart and Oliver, and her son-in-law JB Lowe.

As per her wishes, there will be no calling hours. Burial of her ashes will be private.

Judy was a voracious reader and, as such, was a frequent visitor of the Pequot Library. Friends may consider making a donation to the library in her name at https://www.pequotlibrary.org/donate/.
