Hugh Richardson Sr.

Hugh George Richardson, affectionately known as "Hughie" and “Blue Draws,” age 86, passed away suddenly on February 1, 2026, in Cumming, Georgia.

Born in Lucea, Hanover, Jamaica, West Indies on June 2, 1939, to Cedric Richardson and Ina Morris, Hugh was their eldest son. He attended Jericho School, where he formed lifelong friendships and began developing the quiet determination that would define his life.

At age 16, in 1955, Hugh assisted a motorist whose Rolls‑Royce had broken down—an encounter that sparked his lifelong passion for automotive mechanics. He soon began his automotive journey at Fraters Garage in Jamaica, West Indies.

On July 20, 1965, he married Constance Stephens, in Jamaica. Shortly thereafter, Hugh moved to Fairfield, Connecticut to complete his studies at a New York technical trade school, where he trained as an automotive mechanic.

Hugh went on to build a prolific career in the automotive repair industry, becoming an ASE‑certified Master Mechanic. Beginning in 1968, he worked for Rambler, then a British car shop, and later Stephens Ford of Milford, Connecticut, where he earned a prestigious mechanics award and was featured in a national automotive magazine.

In 1979, Hugh fulfilled a dream by opening his own automotive repair shop, Hughie's Auto Garage in Bridgeport, Connecticut, which he operated successfully until his retirement in 2016 due to declining vision. His quiet nature belied an extraordinary depth of knowledge, and he mentored many apprentices who credit him with shaping their careers.

Hugh resided in Fairfield, Connecticut for more than 45 years, where he raised his family and built a life rooted in faith, humility, and service. He was a dedicated member of Golden Hill United Methodist Church for many years.

He is survived by his spouse, Constance; his eldest son Hugh and wife Shavonn and their children Mekai and Victoria; his daughter Yvette Richardson; his daughter Antoinette Kaine and her husband Edward and their twin sons Thomas and Stephen; and his son Anthony and his wife Marta and Anthony's son Sebastian. He is also survived by his brother Carlton and his family, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Hugh was predeceased by his parents; his sister Alda; his brother Neville; his uncle Headley; his aunts Margaret and Etta; his grandmother “Miss Addie”; and close friends Calvin and Al.

Friends and family may visit at the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Rd. Fairfield from 9-11 AM on Friday February 6. A service will take place at 11. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that charitable donations be made to Glaucoma Research Foundation in Hugh’s memory.
