Henry Maas, age 96 years old, passed away at home in Fairfield on the morning of Sunday, May 31, 2026.
Henry was born in Manhattan to Theresa and John Maas and grew up in the Bronx where he attended Christopher Columbus High School. Henry was in the restaurant business and worked at the Hotel St. George and the Oak Room. He loved meeting new people and making sure they were enjoying themselves. In the late ‘90s, Henry moved to Seaford, New York where he spent many happy years assisting Alice Dinerman and eventually moving in with Harry and Rhoda Roseman. Henry moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut and then to Sullivan-McKinney Elder Housing in Fairfield. He lived there for 15 years where he made friends and was able to ride his blue cruiser bike to the beach and all around the neighborhood.
Everyone knew Henry- whether he was in Seaford or Fairfield. Henry had four dogs who he cherished and loved; Lady, his Dalmatian, Aidan the rescue dog who he shared with Harry. When Harry passed away, Henry took sole ownership of Aidan. Rachel and Avery were Henry’s dogs at Sullivan-McKinney. Henry loved walking them in the neighborhood and met many neighbors on their walks. You could say Henry loved all dogs.
Henry is survived by his dear friends, Karen and Jane Roseman and his friends at Sullivan-McKinney. Special thanks go to the staff at Sullivan McKinney; Ruthann, Steve, and Vi. Henry appreciated the help he received from Sheldon and Chamique. Also, the many people who pitched in walking and taking care of Avery; Beth, Jen, Marianne, Jessa, and Peggy, who did the later shift. Finally, a special thank you goes to Shannon and her family, who Henry adored.
Funeral arrangements are private, and a memorial will take place at Sullivan-McKinney at a later date.
Donations can be made to Sullivan-McKinney Elder Housing. Spear Miller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
