Gerald Thomas Curry

Gerald Thomas Curry, 89, passed away on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at his home, surrounded by much love. Gerry was a man of quiet strength, kindness, and enduring love. He lived his life with a deep devotion to his family, his faith, and the many people and places that brought him joy. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Born on May 21, 1937, in Brooklyn, New York, Gerry was the son of Mary and Tom Curry. He spent most of his life on Long Island, where he grew up alongside his beloved sister, Kathleen “Kathy” Alexander.

From an early age, Gerry had a curious mind and a genuine love of learning. He graduated from Chaminade High School in Mineola, New York, and went on to graduate from the University of Notre Dame in 1958. He later earned his Juris Doctor from Fordham University School of Law in 1961.

Although trained as a lawyer, Gerry found his professional calling on Wall Street, where he built a long and rewarding career in finance. He worked in corporate bond sales at Lehman Brothers, served as a pension portfolio manager at MetLife, and later worked in estate planning at Northwestern Mutual.

But the greatest chapter of Gerry’s life began when he first spotted his true love, Zita E. Stoddart, in church on Holy Thursday. Gerry never tired of telling the story of how he was immediately struck by her. Together, Gerry and Zita shared 60 years of marriage, building a life rooted in love, faith, and family. They made their home in Freeport, New York, where they raised five children and filled their years together with countless happy memories. Zita predeceased Gerry in December 2022.

Family was Gerry’s greatest source of pride and joy. He cherished watching his children grow, welcoming their spouses into the family, and celebrating each new generation. Gerry and Zita’s home was a gathering point for many family celebrations, holidays, and shared meals. Nothing made him happier than being surrounded by the people he loved.

Gerry’s Catholic faith was an equally important foundation in his life. He and Zita were devoted parishioners of Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Church in Roosevelt, New York, where Gerry served as a member of the Finance Committee and as a Trustee. His faith provided him with steady guidance throughout his life and remained a source of comfort and strength.

Outside of faith and family Gerry was an avid golfer. In his youth he belonged to Southward Ho Golf Club, the Garden City Men’s Club and later in life, Rockaway Hunt Club. His passion for sports also led him to coach his sons’ soccer team, learning the game as he went. Gerry’s happiest memories though were made at the beach. For more than 50 summers, Malibu Beach Club in Point Lookout, New York, was a place for Gerry and his family to slow down and enjoy the sunshine, ride the waves, enjoy friends and laughter, and many generations of family memories.

And then there was Notre Dame. As a devoted Fighting Irish fan who rarely, if ever, missed a game, Saturdays in the fall were sacred. Watching Notre Dame football was more than a pastime for Gerry; it was a lifelong tradition and a passion he carried with him from his college years through the rest of his life.

Gerry is survived by his five children and their spouses: Gerald T. Curry Jr. (Mary Sue Dunn); Patricia Z. Donovan (John Donovan); John A. Curry (Caroline Jennings); Robert J. Curry; and Jane E. Michener (Graham Michener).

He is the proud grandfather of Andrew, Michael (Aubrey), Timothy (Olivia), and Jack Curry; Jack, Juliette, and William Donovan; Sean (Leanne), Brendan (Brittany), Devin, and Ana Curry; Matthew, Kevin, and Ryan Curry; Graham Jr., Charlotte, and Phoebe Michener; and great-grandfather of Genevieve Elizabeth, with whom he especially loved to FaceTime.

Gerry is also survived by his beloved sister, Kathy Alexander, and her husband, John Alexander; sisters-in-law Elizabeth Darcy and Jean Stoddart; and 10 wonderful nieces, nephews and their families.

Gerry leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, family, and cherished memories. His gentle spirit, quiet strength, and devotion to those he loved will live on in the many lives he touched. Gerry was especially grateful for the many new friends he made in his last chapter of life at the Maplewood Senior Living Community. There he cherished his classes on opera and music, enjoyed political debates, and the nightly cocktail hour with his friends who enriched his life. May he rest peacefully now, reunited with his beloved Zita and surrounded by God’s grace.

AMass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Fairfield, Connecticut.
