Ellen A. Wasson

Ellen, 88, lovingly known as "Nonnie" to her seven grandchildren and eventually to all who knew her, passed away on a glorious autumn Sunday afternoon, surrounded by her four children: Tara, Roger, Ann and Katie.

She met her husband, Dennis Wasson, in the hospital when she was an RN and he was a Resident. Together they built a loving, warm, and welcoming home in Fairfield, where they raised their family. Becoming Nonnie and Poppy to their grandchildren was their greatest joy. She created cherished traditions and instilled values that will continue to be passed down through generations. All who knew her will remember her gentle warmth, beautiful smile, and cheerful disposition.

Ellen was a long-time devoted member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Southport where she gave generously of her time in so many ways. Knitting prayer shawls and baptismal blankets was a particularly loving dedication of hers.

Her passing brings both profound sorrow and a sense of peace, a feeling for which words can hardly do justice. Our Nonnie will be held always in our hearts and we will forever cherish our memories.

A Celebration of Life will be held with family at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in hopes that a cure be found in the very near future.
