Ellen Cowen

Ellen Cowen, mother to Jeff Cowen and Jane Cowen Hamilton, and loving grandmother to Gordon and Charlotte Hamilton died peacefully August 1st. Born in New York City in 1939, she later moved to Westport, Connecticut. Ellen will be remembered for her buoyant personality and love of classical music, opera and art. Ellen ran the New York City and London Marathons 5 times and played tennis and golf. She loved working in fashion in New York as a buyer for Bonwit Teller and later as a personal shopper at Lord & Taylor in the designer dress department. Further on, she worked as a residential real estate broker in Manhattan and Westport. She had an impeccable ear for music and was an accomplished classical pianist. She particularly loved Bach and Brahms. Ellen enjoyed playing bridge with her friends, was an avid reader and skilled at doing the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzle. Ellen was appreciated for her keen sense of humor and as an adroit punster. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to WQXR radio station (646-829-4000).
