Elizabeth "Beth" Lyons

Elizabeth “Beth” Anne Lyons, 74, passed peacefully in her home in Monroe, CT, surrounded by family on January 1, 2026.

Beth was a knowledgeable, dedicated educator and mentor, an avid reader and animal lover. She was extremely supportive of her children’s activities such as the Boy Scouts of America and Brookville Bee’s Marching Band. Beth was a loving mother and grandmother, devoted wife, faithful sister and friend to many. She enjoyed spending time with a group of friends that included Anita Canon, Diana Parker, Kathy Meredith, Renee Barger and Susan Armentrout who she lovingly referred to as “The Misfits.” Beth always offered kind hospitality to friends of her children and family, serving as a mother figure “Mama Lyons” to many around her and always found extra space for one more - both two-legged and four-legged varieties. Beth enjoyed the love of her daughter, son-in-law, grandchildren and in-laws during her last years battling a long illness.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, to Albert and Helen Grine, she was the youngest of 4 siblings - Earl Grine, Sally Lujin and Dorothy Twenty. She graduated with a Bachelors in Early Education from Towson University and a Master’s in Library Science from Longwood College. Beth married David Bruce Lyons in 1976 and relocated to Hurt, Va. The couple enjoyed a loving marriage of more than 40 years and raised two children together. Beth was a dedicated educator at Tomahawk Elementary working for more than 30 years primarily in Kindergarten and

Pre-Kindergarten. During that time, she touched the lives of countless children.

Beth was predeceased by her husband, David Lyons, son, Jonathan Lyons (Kim Kelly), her parents, and her siblings Earl Grine (Jo Anne) and Dorothy Twenty (Larry). She is survived by her daughter, Jessica (Keith), and was a doting MeeMaw to her grandchildren, Ian and Suzie Peterson. She also called Kris Gilley, Jennifer Harris, Ashley Perkins, and Greg Moser her adopted children. She was also Aunt and Great Aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.

Services and interment will be determined at a later date.
