Eileen Murphy

Eileen Murphy, age 85, of Southport, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2025. She was predeceased by her devoted husband Walter J. Murphy, her brother Kevin Ryder and her parents, Agnes and John Ryder.

Eileen will be remembered by her loving family including children, Laura Cintorino and her husband David, Brian Murphy and his wife MaryAnn, Tara Burke and her husband Tim; her cherished grandchildren, Jessica, Olivia and Alexandra Erim, Keaton, and Lucas Cintorino, Madison and Brendan Murphy, Murphy Burke. She also leaves her brothers: John (Sally) Ryder of North Springfield, VT,Paul (Chris) Ryder of Sarasota, Fl, and her sister-in-law, Marie Ryder of Island Park, NY. As well as many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and great friends.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Eileen was the only daughter in her family, growing up with three brothers. She cherished her years living in Brooklyn and proudly carried the accent throughout her life. After marrying Walter, the couple settled in Queens, New York, for several years before moving to Port Washington, NY where they raised their three children and lived for over 50 years.

Eileen worked at St. Francis Hospital as an EKG technician, a role she was deeply passionate about. Known for her gift of gab and her warm, engaging nature, she formed genuine connections with those around her. There wasn’t a person Eileen wouldn’t talk to—she had endless curiosity about people, was never hesitant to speak her mind and always wanted to make others feel welcome. Full of energy and always up for a gathering, she loved being surrounded by friends, hosting get-togethers, and making her famous stuffed clams.

Some of Eileen’s favorite pastimes included early morning visits to Jones Beach—often arriving by 7 a.m. with a box of donuts and thermoses filled with coffee—and the occasional screwdriver or Bloody Mary. Eileen had a deep love for her many dogs and cats, happily letting them take over her bed—where she’d sleep in a small corner just to make sure they were comfortable.

Eleven years ago, Eileen and her late husband Walter moved to Southport to be closer to their daughter, Tara. They spent seven of those years at Southport Woods, where they thrived, building lasting friendships, and embraced the sense of community. In her final four years, Eileen lived at Maplewood at Southport, where she became affectionally known as “Miss. America” for her warm welcomes and friendly spirit. She loved the vibrant and engaging environment surrounded by people. These were some of the happiest years of her later life, filled with meaningful friendships and a deep sense of belonging.

For those who knew Eileen, her quirky charm, quick wit, and love of a good Manhattan cocktail will never be forgotten. As we raise a glass in her honor, we’ll remember her signature phrase---“Just have another dash.”
