Dorothy K McLean, age 97, passed away peacefully on January 15th in the early morning hours. She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on June 9, 1928 to her parents Mary and Joseph Kohane. She married her husband Bill in 1948 and in June of 1964 they moved their young family to Fairfield, Connecticut. Fairfield became the place she truly called home, where she lived in the same house and cherished neighborhood for more than six decades.
Dorothy lived a rich and active life, marked by curiosity, connection, and joy. She loved playing bridge and golf, traveling, reading, and she especially treasured time spent with family and friends. An enthusiastic traveler, she delighted in several memorable journeys throughout Europe and Alaska. Throughout her life, she held close her Pittsburgh roots, remaining a devoted fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers — a small but meaningful link to her early years.
A wonderful and generous cook, Dorothy was well known for her cooking and her recipes were often requested and shared. In her later years, she found great joy in the loving company of her beloved fur grand babies: Freya, Turtle, and Gracie.
She was predeceased by her parents, Mary and Joseph Kohane; her beloved husband, William McLean; and her siblings: Virginia Becker (Bill), Gladys Greene (Jimmy) and Madeleine Persons, all of Pennsylvania.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Thomas McLean (Debbie Daniels) and Lynn Adams; her grandchildren, Michele Adams Chevrette (David Chevrette), Rachel Reyes (Jose), Corey Adams, and Alexandra Adams; her great-grandchildren: Noah Chevrette, Nicholas Chevrette, Noelle Burgess, and Nora Burgess; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins who remain in the Pittsburgh area.
Dorothy will be remembered for her warmth, her sense of adventure, her heartfelt cooking, and the deep care she showed to those fortunate enough to know her.
Services will be held at Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield, Connecticut on Wednesday, January 21 at 10:30 AM, with a prayer service beginning at 11 AM. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Oaklawn Cemetery, 1530 Bronson Road, Fairfield, Connecticut. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The American Diabetes Association.
