Dorothy S. Baekey

Dorothy “Dottie” Schneider Baekey, 89, of Fairfield passed away peacefully on June 25th, 2026. She was the wife of the late Bruce B. Baekey. Dottie was born on May 18, 1937 in Washington, DC, but was a town resident for 58 years.

Dottie worked for a number of years at TWA as a stewardess traveling the world. She gave up flying though when she married Bruce and ultimately started a family. The family moved from New Jersey, to Cincinnati, OH, and then back to the East Coast settling in Fairfield, CT in 1968. She continued to work in a number of jobs while raising a family ultimately finding herself with Father O’Neil at Fairfield University in the job placement office, helping graduates find employment, a job she found particularly gratifying. She was a member of the Greenfield Hill Congregational Church volunteering for their Dogwood Festival for many years; The Junior League of Fairfield County; P.E.O; The Westport Playhouse; The Bridgeport Symphony; the Black Rock Yacht Club; and the Fayerweather Yacht Club. She enjoyed gardening, reading, and taking long walks every day, but ultimately the greatest joy of her life was being with her family and a close circle of friends.

Dottie is survived by her sister Judy Curtis, three sons Geoffrey and his wife Christine, Gregory and his wife Pamela, Andrew and his wife Kara; her loving grandchildren, Brett, Jake, Kyle, Brooke, Owen, Charlotte, and Benjamin; and two nieces, Elizabeth and Jennifer Schneider. In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by her brother Joseph Schneider.

A memorial service will be held at the Greenfield Hill Congregational Church, 1045 Old Academy Rd., Fairfield at 10 am on Wednesday July 29th. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Greenfield Hill Congregational Church Memorial Garden fund.
