Charles Philip McGoldrick, III

Charles Philip “Charlie” McGoldrick III, 76, of Fairfield, Connecticut, passed away peacefully at his home on October 27, 2025. Born in Bridgeport on October 5, 1949, he was the son of the late Charles and Grace (Stimetz) McGoldrick. Charlie was predeceased by his sister Charlene McGoldrick and brother David McGoldrick. He is survived by his sisters Kathy (Frank) Marcinowski, Susan (Frank) Clarke, Sally McGoldrick (Rich Deckerd), and Jill McGoldrick. He leaves behind his wife of 38 years, Mary Jane McGoldrick, and his children Faye (TJ) Sportini and Jane (Ryan) Donnelly, along with his stepchildren Stephanie Sortman and Trip (Holly) Kolkmeyer. Known as “Pop” to his grandchildren, he took great pride in them all: Thomas, Olivia, Nicholas, and James Sportini; Maura and Seamus Donnelly; Fionna, Talia, Gavin, and Vincent Sortman; and Liam and Wyatt Kolkmeyer. A lifelong Fairfield resident, Charlie took over the McGoldrick Fuel family business from his father in the 1980s and built it into a successful operation that served the local area for decades. He was determined, strong-willed, and never afraid to do things his own way, qualities that defined both his work and his life. Charlie enjoyed the things that made him happiest: time with family at Misquamicut Beach, a day of golf, penny slot machines, a good cigar, and plenty of off-color jokes, often delivered with a wise smirk that said he knew exactly how far to push the punchline.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, November 4, 2025 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Fairfield. Interment will be private in St. Francis Cemetery, New Milford. Friends may greet the family Monday, from 5-7 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
