C. Robert Bruckmann (Bob), age 96, formerly of Fairfield and Guilford, beloved husband of 72 years to the late Eleanor F. Bruckmann, passed away peacefully Monday, November 24, 2025 at the Springs at Watermark. Born in Mount Vernon, NY, the son of the late Carl Rudolph Bruckmann and Marjorie (Schimoler) Bruckmann, he had been a Fairfield resident of over 20 years prior to moving to Massachusetts. He and Eleanor also enjoyed spending time at their shoreline residence in Guilford. A graduate of Cardinal Hayes High School in New York, he later received his Bachelors degree in Accounting from Manhattan College. He began his career in accounting for Ernst & Ernst in New York and later worked for the Hat Corporation in Norwalk. Bob then held the position of Chief Financial Officer at Yale New Haven Hospital and later for Bay State Medical Center in Springfield, MA, retiring in 1994. A devout Roman Catholic, he was a former parishioner of St. Thomas Aquinas Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. The highlight of his life was meeting Mother Teresa at Kennedy Airport where they engaged in conversation and Mother Teresa presented him and Eleanor Miraculous Medals to give to their family. Bob would incorporate that meeting in the “Bruckmann Family History”. He enjoyed boating, fishing and playing golf at the Par 3 course in Fairfield. Predeceased by his eldest daughter, Barbara McCarthy, Bob will be sadly missed by his four beloved children, Anne French and her husband Glenn of Naugatuck, Joseph Bruckmann and his wife Gail of Shelton, Robert Bruckmann and his wife Anne of Walpole, MA, and Catherine Kallberg and her husband Don of Bethel; a son-in-law Thomas McCarthy of Fairfield; 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. A wake will be held Monday, December 1, 2025 from 5-7 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Road, Fairfield. Interment will be private at Oak Lawn Cemetery.
