Bruce A. Meeker, age 90 of Fairfield, beloved husband of 69 years to Nancy (Ostrosky) Meeker, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. Born in Bridgeport, son of the late William and Fannie (Wade) Meeker, he was a lifelong Fairfield resident. After graduating from Roger Ludlowe High School in 1954, Bruce joined the U.S. Army, serving most of his time during the Korean War stationed in Hawaii. After returning home and marrying his High School sweetheart, he started working for Sturm Ruger and later for the DuPont Company in Fairfield. While at DuPont, he also served as a Fairfield Special Police officer. Always ready to support his children and community, Bruce was an active volunteer with the Police Athletic League for many years, as well as a Boy Scout leader at St. Thomas Aquinas Church. With Nancy at his side, Bruce enjoyed traveling, visiting all 50 US states and most of Canada. When at home, Bruce could often be found working in his prized garden and around the house. Not only an accomplished and talented wood worker, he also became a member of the National Association of Wheat Weavers, a craft he shared with both Nancy and their daughter, Linda. In addition to his loving wife Nancy, Bruce is survived by his two grandchildren, Ashley Meeker and Joseph Meeker Jr., sister in laws Theresa Noreika and Patricia Carson, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Joseph W. Meeker and daughter Linda M. Meeker-Arroyo, as well as all seven of his siblings. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. Friends may greet the family Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
