Bruce A. Benway. Sr

Bruce A. Benway Sr. age 84 of Southport and Pompano Beach, Florida died peacefully on July 5, 2026. He was the devoted husband of Elsa Benway for 59 years. He was born on December 8, 1941, and the son of the late John and Jennie Benway. He resided in Fairfield and later in Southport.

He was Co-Owner and President of A. J. Benway Painting & Decorating Company, one of Fairfield's oldest continuously operating private companies founded in 1905. He was a home builder who took great pride in the homes he built.

He served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS John Hood and remained active in the veteran community as a member of Port 5 National Association of Naval Veterans. He was member of the Lions Club, Elks Club and Bocci League.

A devoted father he is survived by his sons, Bruce. Jr. (Margaret) Benway of Woodbridge, Thomas (Donna) Dasse of North Carolina, a daughter Allison (Scott) Murphy of Southport and his former daughter-in-law, Andrea Morelli of Fairfield.

He was the proud and cherished grandfather of Samantha (Leonardos) Zervos, Chad Benway, and Blake Benway, and the great-grandfather of Niko Zervos. He is also survived by his brother, Alan (Karen) Benway of Fairfield, and was affectionately known as "Uncle Bruce" to his many nieces and nephews. His faithful companion, Kiki, brought him great comfort and joy.

He is predeceased by his sister, Joan Hellgren

Friends and family may visit at the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Rd, Fairfield on Friday July 10 from 10:00-11:30 AM. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:30. Interment with full Military Honors will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
