Barbara J. Doherty

Barbara Jane Doherty, age 90, of Shelton, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 19, 2026 at Griffin Hospital. Born in Stamford to the late John and Helen (Vickers) Lasagna. Barbara and her late husband, Patrick J. Doherty were high school sweethearts. They married and lived in Stamford where they started a family, then settled in Fairfield for over 60 years. As a catholic, she brought up her children in the catholic religion. Barbara worked to raise her family and cared for other children. She started her career in retail and then worked as a bookkeeper in a prestigious restaurant until she retired. Throughout her life as mother, grandmother and great-mother, Barbara loved spending time with her family and friends, for casual visits and hosting holiday parties and celebrating special occasions. Her kindness, fairness, generosity and thoughtfulness extended to everyone she met and she was always willing to help with tasks large and small. She cooked and baked and loved to share, always insisting that everyone eat something when they visited, including sweet treats and extra for the road. Barbara enjoyed spending time socializing with her long-time friends, many from high school. She met new friends at the Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. where she attended special social occasions with her husband. Barbara and her husband usually vacationed in coastal areas including Cape Cod and Maine and later to Vermont. She also enjoyed road trips with her siblings to casinos and places they vacationed as children. Never at a loss for words, conversations with Barbara included a great level of detail with her insights, opinions of fairness and genuine interest in what others had to say.

Barbara is survived by four children and their spouses, Patrick M. Doherty (Tamara) of Southbury, Susan Anderson (Scott) of Wallingford, VT, Colleen Gilberson (Greg) of Trumbull, and Laurie Fusco (Richard) of Shelton, her brother John Lasna (Louise) of Westford, MA, her 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 17 nephews and nieces. She is predeceased by her sister, Mary Lou Canning. She had a wonderful life full of gratitude and happiness. Her family honor her with all our love as she rests in peace.
