Assunta Edith Farrell, nee Ohlsson, age 92, of Monroe, CT, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 surrounded by family. Born in New York City on April 10, 1933, she was the daughter of Richard Oscar Ohlsson and Rosa de Maria.
Sunny spent her childhood with her sisters Diana and Adrianne in Riverside, CT and attended local grammar schools and Greenwich High School. She went on to earn a nursing degree from St. Vincent’s School of Nursing in Bridgeport, CT. She was an active nurse for forty plus years, working in many aspects of the nursing profession. She taught nurse aides, was a private duty nurse in homes, and took care of the priests at Fairfield University. She still had a nursing license in 2025!
Sunny met John Farrell on a blind date, he was a graduate of Fairfield University and they married in September 1956. After Jack’s tour as a US Marine, the Farrells settled in Bridgeport, CT and together they raised a busy and noisy family of five children. The family moved to Fairfield, CT and became active in Our Lady of the Assumption school and church. Family was foremost and revolved around church, school and sports!
Sunny will be remembered for a personality that matched her name, as well as for her devotion to her family and to her church. She had a beautiful smile, kind words, and was a caring nurse to so many patients.
Sunny is survived by her children, Mary Judith, Patricia, James and Margaret Lynn, five grandchildren, and many great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her spouse, John R. Farrell, and her son, John G. Farrell.
Visitation will be held October 20th at Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 29 South Benson Road, Fairfield from 4 pm to 6 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30AM on Tuesday, October 21st, at St Thomas Aquinas Church, 1719 Post Road in Fairfield, CT.. Interment will follow at the St. Thomas Cemetery.
