Anne-Brigid (Anamae) Lucey Surber, R.N., age 89 of Trumbull, beloved wife of 65 years to the late G. Joseph Cahill Surber, passed away Sunday, February 8, 2026. Born in Bridgeport, the daughter of the late Thomas and Agnes Clark Lucey, she was named after her two grandmothers, Anne and Brigid and was known as Anne to all her friends. Anne was a Registered Nurse; brought up in Fairfield, where she lived until her marriage to Joe in 1960. 

She worked for many years in Hospital, Industrial and Office Nursing and was a member of the Connecticut Nurses Association. Anne was also a retired Realtor and was a member of the Bridgeport Board of Realtors and the CT Real Estate Association. She was a graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas School, Lauralton Hall and St. Vincent’s College of Nursing. Anne shared a strong bond with her fellow nursing classmates and looked forward to their frequent lunch gatherings. She loved to sing and participated in the Lauralton Hall Chorus, St. Vincent’s Nursing School Chorus, the Trumbull Chorus and was a Charter Member of the Gaelic American Glee Club in Fairfield along with her husband Joe. Anne and Joe were members of Christ the King Church in Trumbull. 

Anne was very proud of their Irish heritage, marching in the Greater Bridgeport St. Patrick’s Day Parade with Joe almost every year since its inception from 1983 until 2016. She was an active member of the Gaelic American Club in Fairfield since 1987 and performed with Joe in the GAC drama club, Clan na Gael. Anne was also a member of the Trumbull Senior Center and the Red Hat Society. After Joe’s retirement they enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S and also on cruises. They made many trips to Ireland where they visited many cousins in Counties, Cavan, Clare & Mayo, and visited Switzerland, Germany and Austria. 

Anne is survived by her loving son and caregiver, Brian Cahill Surber of Trumbull, a son Timothy Clark Surber (Kate) of Trumbull; a nephew, Todd Lucey and two great-nieces , a Godson and great-nephew, Colin Surber of Portsmouth, RI; and in Ireland by her cousins, the Finbarr Harte family of County Clare, and the Padraig Colgan family of County Cavan. Not having any grandchildren of her own, she was affectionately known as “Nana Anne” to many of her friends’ grandchildren. She was predeceased by her beloved son, Kevin Thomas Surber, who died in 1988 at the age of 24 and by her brother, William Lucey. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, February 26th at 10:30 a.m. at Christ the King Church, 4700 Madison Ave., Trumbull. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Friends may greet the family Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
